Octordle asks you to solve eight five-letter words at the same time. Every guess appears on all eight boards.
The rules
- You have 13 guesses to solve all eight words.
- Colors work as in Wordle: green is the right letter in the right spot, yellow is in the word but elsewhere, gray is not in that word.
- A solved board stops changing, and the rest carry on.
- A new Daily Octordle starts at midnight in your own time zone.
A strategy that works
- Open with three letter-testing words. Three words with fifteen different common letters show you most of what is on the eight boards.
- Finish boards one at a time. With 13 guesses and eight words, you can only spare a few guesses that do not solve something.
- Start with the closest board. Solve whichever board has the most greens, then look again: each solved word adds information to the rest.
- Keep track of unusual letters. A single yellow J, X or Z narrows that board down fast.
Our daily page suggests two opening words for today, then gives the same graded hints for all eight boards before the answers.
